Very nice item, which was very possibly used at one time for weighing quantities of gold and used by seaman when at sea. It is a complete set of brass scales in a beautiful wooden box, which is all velvet lined in red. As seen from the picture provided, the scales are in a mint condition and are complete with brass weights and attachments. The arm of the scales screws into the base section of the box and the balance arm and the scales rest upon it. This is a unique weighing devise, which was possibly used for gold, or other fine mineral. The size is of the boxed set is approx. 10″ x 5″ (25m x 13cm).
