From the old Red Funnel Steamers Company this is a turn of the century original paddle steamers ship’s ashtray and this item is a heavy weather type object and is very solid throughout and was usually for outside use. This superb old ashtray shows in the bottom of it a gold background with the usual company houseflag shown in full colour plus it also reads across it the company name "RED FUNNEL STEAMERS". The size is approx. 5" (13cm) square and is an item which is a real collectors piece from the old paddle steamers era and a very rare and very heavy piece.
[The Southampton Isle of Wight and South of England Royal Mail Steam Packet Company Limited, which trades as Red Funnel, is a ferry company which carries passengers and vehicles on routes between the English mainland and the Isle of Wight. Vehicle/passenger ferries operate between Southampton and East Cowes, whilst the Red Jet branded high-speed foot passenger service operates between Southampton and Cowes (contentiously called West Cowes throughout the company’s literature).
